Genesis
The Department of Biochemistry embarked on its journey as an independent entity in the academic year 1994-1995. However, its origins date back to 1988 when it was established as a Division within the Department of Chemistry under the auspices of the University Grants Commission, New Delhi. From its initial inception, the department demonstrated a commitment to excellence in both teaching and research. The formative years laid the groundwork for a steadfast dedication to academic rigor and scientific exploration. In 2002, recognizing the evolving landscape of biotechnology, the department introduced a groundbreaking 5-year Integrated M.Sc. Biotechnology program. Concurrently, in a move that highlighted its expanding focus, the department underwent a name change in 2002, becoming the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology. Building on its success, the department further diversified its academic offerings in 2009 with the introduction of the M.Sc. Biotechnology program, spanning two years. This move was strategic, offering students a more specialized and flexible educational pathway in response to the dynamic demands of the biotechnology field. Over the years, the department has garnered sponsorships from esteemed organizations including UGC-SAP and DST-FIST, a testament to its recognized standing in academic and research circles. Led by distinguished professors, the department has made substantial contributions to Cancer Biology, Diabetes Mellitus, Neurobiology and Cardiovascular Biology reflecting a commitment to excellence in scientific research and education. The curriculum is meticulously crafted based on TANSCHE recommendations, aiming to integrate the recent developments in Biochemistry and Biotechnology. Its purpose is to furnish students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for success in academic pursuits and competitive examinations.
